Philip. S. Potter
A stone carver and sculptor working nationally and internationally, based in Stourbridge in the heart of the Black Country. Graduating in Fine Art from Loughborough University in 1995, he went on to gain a distinction in his MA at Birmingham City University, before continuing toward doctoral study by way of a PgCert in Research at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, BIAD, with the equivalent of three years' postgraduate research across BIAD and Nottingham Trent University.
He began his teaching and studio practice at Glasshouse College in 2001 and has since expanded his work across the UK — from the West Midlands to Wiltshire — with pieces exported internationally through Saatchi Online. He is an associate of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (ARBSA).
Kairos Sculpture brings together Philip's fine art practice, his teaching workshops, and a range of hand-carved pieces — united by a love of material, mark-making, and time spent with stone.

My Approach
Stone demands patience. You can't rush it, and it won't forgive inattention — which is exactly what draws me to it. Every piece begins with a conversation between maker and material: what the stone wants to be, and what I want to say.
Rooted in research My practice is informed by years of academic study alongside hands-on making. The thinking and the carving feed each other — ideas find their form in stone, and the stone pushes back with ideas of its own.
Made to last Whether it's a fine art piece, a memorial commission, or a workshop for someone picking up a chisel for the first time, I bring the same care and attention. Stone outlasts us all — it deserves to be worked with intention.
